BACK TO BLAKE
Back in May, Young Jamieson Fine Art proudly presented a major solo show of ‘Sir Peter Blake: 100 Sources of Pop’ over three floors of our beautiful Georgian Gallery in Marlborough.
Sir Peter Blake, best known for his Beatles album cover: Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, is identified as the Godfather of British Pop Art. Born in 1932, he came of age in a country recovering from war and was able to utilise ground breaking new methods (such as screen-printing) to create bold and optimistic renditions of life moving forward. He challenged the status quo’s idea of what constituted art and broke down barriers between traditional fine art and the new, cutting-edge field of Pop art. To date, Blake continues to work in his London Studio.
We were lucky enough to also have in attendance Blakes incredible Art Bus. He created the Bus with the aim of creating a rock ‘n’ roll tour bus for art and artists, printed with his artwork on the outside and hung with editions for sale on the inside. Open to all, our preview and the double-decker were the talk of the town and got everyone excited about exhibitions to come. Only our second show of the year, Young Jamieson Fine Art has now presented 4 incredible exhibitions and there’s plenty more to come throughout the months ahead! Below, you can see just some of the amazing works we had on display in the gallery.
